Reading response activity

Background Info:-

This article was written by Amy Shanks and is about a Hawke’s Bay women who feeds her teenage children with just $8. She says she get’s $350 from WINZ and $175 from family assistance and she pays her mothers loan, mortgage, power bill automatic payments for school fees, the mechanic in case something goes wrong with her car.She also says that she owns a beach side house and she’s been single ever since her children were born.

Explore writing:-

I think the article is good but it has it’s good points and bad points. The bad points are she has her own beach side house which basicly sounds like she rich and she isn't living in poverty. Also she gets $525 but she pays off all her loans and bills with big amounts but why can’t she just pay little by little. The good points are she knows how to make a healthy meal with the basics egg and flour and she’s saving on petrol which is good for the enviroment. She says she will do anything for her children.

Judgement:-

I feel sorry that she’s on a tight budget but then also I don’t feel sorry for her because she has her own house so why can’t she either sell it or rent it out to some rich family. It’s good that she looking for a job but she says that there are thousands of people looking for jobs. She is getting free money from the government so that's good. But I still think she could try and do more for her children. I also think the government should set up small hard working jobs for people like Kelly. But I am also asking myself where is her partner.

My poem about my BFF

She is as beautiful as the sun
She loves having fun
She loves to swim in Summer
And she’s been in a Hummer

She hates the look of clowns
And she has a birthday crown
She loves a good horror movie
And loves to get down and groovy

She loves the colour blue
And loves to eat beef stew
She loves jewelry
And adores Queen B (Beyonce)

She loves to write
And shes afraid of the night
She constantly watches Lab Rats
And has a collection of hats

She loves the song Royal
And she loves using baby oil
She loves going shopping
And shes good at hip hopping

The Vege Car

LI:-To make connections with the text

The Vege car is a article about the McDonald family creating a car the doesn't need petrol but runs on vege oil. At first when he told people about it they thought that it was great but they also asked is it reliable. So James Nui and his son James Iti drove from the bottom of New Zealand to the top, and they started a Bluff and ended at Cape Reinga.

Evaluation:Has this text shown how important it is to save the environment? Yes How?It has shown that it is environmentally friendly, cheaper, cleaner, and Green Party co-leader Jeanette Fitzsimsons signed the vege car for support.

Application Questions:
   7.   Is it complicated to make the cars? Yes Why?It is complicated to make cars because you must connect everything together and make sure nothing goes wrong and you must make sure you put in the right things and put them in the right place.
